Haven't been driving long but safe to say new drivers are now spoilt for choice compared to some of the older generation.. [IMG]

Yep, a boxy old fiat uno turbo i.e. It had a 1.4 turbo that put out about 120bhp as standard. Had mine running about 140 bhp, which in a lightweight tin body was pretty quick. Engine was great, the rest was rubbish. Bits fell off etc, but looking back it was great fun.

Still hold a soft spot for my indestructible 2001 Fiesta Flight with the rattly, old (but bulletproof) 1.3 engine, complete with rubbish, cheap personalised reg that I bought with my first student loan payment... Very nearly killed it so many times (through my own utter stupidity) but it kept fighting on until I replaced it with the world’s most unbelievably unreliable 2005 Seat Ibiza FR PD130. 9DC6563E-BFAA-4FE2-8B51-7AB93B67DF32.jpeg

1971 mini( a proper one) fitted with a 1300cc on twin carbs and big exhaust, £200 if memory serves, no synchro on first gear and sliding windows, tremendous fun.

I learned a fact the other day about the UNO that surprised me. Was looking through one of my little lads books about car facts.
The uno is the 3rd best Selling car in the world ever! Who knew? Beetle first, ford model T then the uno, then the old Lada.
My first car was a brand new 1998 Nissan Micra. Lol. Bit different to my mum and dads Sierra Sapphire I’d been driving for a few months.
I was ready to buy a bright yellow Fiat cinquecento sporting but my dad talked me out of it cause of the size of it. It was a cracking test drive though I loved it.

Old 70's Mini Clubman with a 1275 GT engine - total rust bucket and wouldn't be road worthy these days, but it was my first car :)

In 1988/89 I really wanted a Renault 5 Gordini turbo but they were still hovering around £2k. I ended up buying a MG Metro Turbo 1300 , it ran 100hp on the rolling road at TSR. On a 1983 Y plate at 6 years old it already had tin worn attacking it. Most had replacement front wings by then so not seen as a problem. I looked at about 6 before buying the best for the money I had.
10 seconds to 60 it was a quick car at that time, paid £1500 or equivalent of £3750 with inflation. Watching the turbo boost gauge light up seemed the dogs , but gearbox failure was common. Third party insurance was about £300 so not as bad as teenagers prices now.
The tyres, eagle nct ,were £50 a corner, that was half my weeks wages !.
Sold it on after 18 months and replaced with a sensible 5dr mk3 escort 1600.
I waited until 2001 and a Clio 172 before more fun.

My friends dad used to own a back street garage repair/ cut&shut shop, we used to help out at weekends and had use of his dubious collection of sale cars. Austin 1300 gt was great fun.

Alfasud 1500ti , couple of dolomites - a 1850 & sprint ,a very fast mazda 323 estate and a saab 99 turbo were the memorable ones. Much less memorable , Austin maxi-maestro-marina-etc ,Renault 5 campus, capri 1600, Honda sooty van.

Check all you lot out with your fancy big engined cars with turbos...

I had one of these, 1991 Peugeot 106XN Graduate. 954cc beast... crashed it into the side of a milk lorry (a proper lorry not a milk float lol).

    It was terrible.

I used to cruise for honies in one of these (cameras hadn't been invented - only picture of one I could find). Pimpin purple! Doesn't look as sporty as I remember it.
