Nub question but where is ecu located on Altea? Is it under the bulkhead behind the fuzzy layer of sound insulation?
Need to remove to get ecu "corrected " before dealer visit?

Hi CrispDust,

maybe I didn't get the picture, as there are lots of ECUs build into our 5Ps ...

I guess, you're just looking for the connector socket, where the OBD-cable has to be plugged in ... if so, here you go:

=> ECU Port on Altea

btw ... what kind of "correction" are you talking about?

Klawit, thanks for help but no you didn't get the picture. I know where the CAN port is and I have it on a cable tie so it doesn't get lost on the floor when I plug in vag com!

What I'm after is the actual ECU box hardware, to remove and take to my friendly remapper as I don't want to drive the car in its poorly condition.

Hi CrispDust,

now it's clear to me ... :)

You're just regarding the engine's ECU (in the 2nd pic the "Motorsteuergerät" up left)

Should be located in the middle of the water tank box (?correct term? that's where the wiper motor sits)

And, thou I guess that you've already got my former posting, here's two little sketches (from GolfV) to illustrate the bus system and the ECU network.

A little off topic - but due to some misdiagnosed warranty work I have a spare perfect working order ECU from a TDI FR - would you sell or keep hold of it just in case?

ECU is behind the thin tin sheet scuttle panal - just 2 T30 screws hold it on. ECU is just to the right of middle. It is "locked" in by a security bracket that can just be bent out of the way temporarily.
The thin insulated sheet blocks out a HUGE amount of engine noise - turbo woosh and diesel clatter - I'm wondering if it might be worth purchasing an additional insulation layer to screw over the original for an even quieter drive?
There was also an alarming amount of potentially body corroding crud and leaves inside the bulkhead so it may be worth, if you have a spare minutes taking off the scuttle panal and giving it a good hoover/hose down.
Asked about ecu upgrage for hesitation at pick up and was told it wasn't needed on mine ('05).
Problem turns out to be a loose/defunct inlet pipe to intercooler connection - maybe a similar problem to the 1.9s No4 tube?

This hesistation i had in particular when the seal and then pipe came off, not completly but enough to cause poor fuel consumption and hesitation, used bands to temp seal it up some until Monday when pipe is replaced, hesitation is gone!
