a silly qyestion from a newby , someone suggested the engine in my 02 Toledo TDI SE is pump diesel. How can I find out ?

Also having problems with limp mode - have had Maf and vacuum thing changed but still cuts out under load. I have been looking at previous threads.

Also , sometimes fails to start and the glow plug light was flashing yesterday - so maybe need new plugs ? cars done about 85k.

cheers Malc and have a great weekend all. :)

PS have had water leaks as well - I reckon a design fault which Seat should have owned up to !!

What do you mean by a pump diesel? Do you mean PD, Pumpe Duese, the later unit injection type, or a distrubutor pump diesel, like the earlier TDI 90 and 110 engines. the PD engine in a 2002 car would be the 150 bhp, coded ARL

Is the TDI lettering on the boot all silver (TDI 90), or does it have a red I (TDI 110), or a red D and a red I (TDI 130/150)?

The way to be certain is to find the engine code letters stamped onto the block, next to the bellhousing.

My 2001 TDI SE with its red I is a TDI 110, which is a distributor pump engine.

re.PD

thanks for the reply I think you have clarified. Un fortunately my car had been debadged when I bought it in 2004 ,but from what you have said I reckon it's not PD. Just thinking about synthetic oil and what to use. I've also read that Forte is the best flush. :)
