Apart from looks what are the main differences in performance e.g lag and torque

are you trying to compare the 7cm to the 8cm housing? obviously the 8 will be laggier but with a better top end.The compressor housing makes a difference aswell.

better top end if you have everything else to support it.. what revs?

what can the compressor actually pump on this unit?

remounting the actuator and clocking it looks like it will require some welding of bosses on the comp housing

comp wheel on vf34 is 39lb tho is'nt it, but choked by its small turbine/hotside

Pe was 44lb, FP green 49lb, but well over +100bhp from Pe to Green. Difference being the hotsides massively different so total flow improves. (assumes manifold can happily flow all of this mind you as my step change included equal length manifold @ same time.)

I prefer the sound of the one with the 7cm housing because i want to use the car for trackdays aswel and prefer spool up speed over topend..

Btw can i run a 4bar fpr with a IHI v34/20 and 440cc injectors or do i need to stick with a 3bar fpr..?

i've looked further into this a standard 16g wheel is 33lb/min which is fractionally smaller than a vf34 compressor and a gt28rs 35lb/min which is fractionally bigger .So i guess we could guesstimate it at 34lb/min.
The 435cfm on the vf34 is at 1 bar as are the others. Some sites quote the 18g at 40lb/min aswell. Combined with the much larger and more free flowing exhaust housing of the 18g you can see why it makes 40-50bhp more.Whether this extra power means it's above the limit for standard internals i don't know but you could run it at lower boost for increased reliabilty.

the TD05H-18g would look to be a VF34 replacement at face value.
only time will tell how they fare reliability wise of course.

was'nt that long ago that VF34 was the god of 1.8T turbo upgrades and now look at it............ the most failing turbo out there.

we're all too greedy wanting more than is reliable and its our own fault.

i mentioned the 18g to mike a few years ago and he told me jerome used one and made 40bhp more than the vf34 at the same boost. He seemed obsessed with using a big 16g but from what i can gather it was not much of a improvement over the vf34.
subaru guru john banks loved the td05h based turbos .
