DM Keith Seat have just given LO the following update on my car due to be built this week after I asked about delays caused by the dashboard production line fire.....

Just checked and this customers car is due to be built this week, just spoke to retailer support and the brand are expecting delays of approx. 2 weeks.

Its effecting build weeks 47-51, I think we’ll need to keep an eye on it and see when it gets a chassis no.

"Seat have not yet confirmed the release date for the Mk4 but summer 2020 seems likely" - Carwow

The new golf mk8 is Spring 2020 and already revealed (Ugly IMO) so Summer 2020 for the Leon seems reasonable.

Only last week

From what people have experienced on here you are looking at up to 6 months depending on the model and optional extras.

The hatch is 14 to 16 week for build. The ST is 20 to 24 week build. This doesn’t include transfer from the factory to dealership. That can add 12 weeks on to the timeline.

I’m 6 months in and still not taken delivery.

Hi all,

Keep checking in to see if hatches have landed yet, can't believe they haven't. I'm lost for words.

If I had have kept my order I would also now be peeved that I ordered Mystery Blue, got told it was discontinued so switched to Magnetic Grey and now it seems Mystery Blue is back on the table. Pfft!

Eleven weeks since I cancelled. Been in the Bimmer eight and a bit weeks now. Loving the Bimmer however I am honestly sad I'm not in a Cupra. I just wouldn't have been happy waiting up to sixteen weeks lead plus up to twelve weeks delivery. It's bonkers, and fair play to those holding out, just not for me.

My take on it now, if the new model is coming in the summer I expect there will be crazy deals on 3rd Gen Leon Cupras when these cars finally do land and people swap their delayed orders for the new one and these are then left sat at the port. I also honestly can't see orders being taken after Christmas being honoured, as mentioned above, they'll start to be cancelled due to the plant setup being changed for the start of production of the new model.

I think SEAT will definitely start cancelling the later orders if they can't clear their huge backlog (Now almost 6 months of hatchback orders!)

However customers won't swap for a new Cupra as they won't arrive until at least 6 months after the new model, so 2021. Hot versions are always 6 months + after initial launch. They may start to do what you did though and find alternatives as there will be customers who don't want a Cupra just before it's replaced and others who are just fed up waiting.

I wouldn't cancel though as it's an awesome car and the new version is supposed to be a hybrid and down on power so may be the last full fat petrol Cupra. I'm biased though as own one and love it.

I don’t understand why everywhere is still heavily advertising the Leon Cupra with no mention of a delayed lead time. You’d think they’d clear the back log first but who knows. I’m still 3 weeks past my build week and the status still hasn’t been updated. Looking like my car won’t get on a ship until January now which means Feb delivery time... ordered in August lol.

It's very strange as when I ordered in March I was told there was a huge backlog and I could have to wait up to 5 months. It then only took 2 and arrived in May! I don't think SEAT know what they are doing tbh.

It is strange, seems to be random on people receiving orders as I’ve heard of people ordering a lot later than us on here and have had delivery already. All the lies along the way has made the whole process even worse. I was hoping the guys who took delivery on here said the car was a bag of sh*t so I could happily cancel. But nope the car is brilliant and the price is good so I have to wait haha.

Yeah, sorry the car is absolutely fantastic even if I'd paid £5k more I'd still love it.
I didn't need my car until July so I never rang to check for updates so never got to experience what I read on here. It's pretty appalling service and very much a lottery on how long the car takes. Colour, options and model all have a bearing on how long it will take but SEAT will know this and should be able to give accurate predictions. It's not as if they decide what to build each week without having a long term manufacturing plan......although I have worked in Spain and this may be how they operate hahaha.

So had this reply and await anything further

Good morning Rob,

I haven't seen any information yet but I chased this up with SEAT and was
told there was a problem with the supply of dash boards for Leon's.

The supply issue affected SEAT Leon's due to be built from week 47 to week
51, SEAT told me that these builds will be delayed by a week or two at the
most.

I will chase this again today and find out if there is any further news.

Kind regards,

I think it docked last Saturday and left on Monday.

No update on mine yet. Just hoping it’s the 16th Dec as I’ve got the day off work!!

I pressed LO for an update. Dealer confirmed my car arrived on 2nd December...said 2weeks...Seat CS said 7-10working days so this should mean car is there on Friday 13th...

After that it's just the PDI...which takes a day right? Anyone know what exactly this involves?

@mildmanneredjon if we are in same schedule - then I suspect end of the day on 16th or maybe 17th might be a shout. Assuming the dealer can do whatever they need to do in a day.

Keep us updated!!

So far I’ve had no further contact from the dealer so not confirmed for my requested date of 16th Dec. Hopefully I’ll hear something this week.

I’m buying mine so don’t have the added delay of the PDI.

The lease company said the car I have ordered are ones they had already ordered for march delivery which is why only black was available .. So hoping that is the case.

I have had the dealer delivery date of February 14th given to me so far.

This week is my build week but not a peep from forces cars since it was confirmed.

I'm not chasing them because I have no need to. They have been pretty good at updting me when anything changes so far.
I've got my order number from FCD. How long did it take you to get a build date?

I ordered end of September and had a confirmed build date of 9th December in early November, so just over a month. They gave me a provisional build week in January almost 2 or 3 days after I ordered.
