This is what happens when aligned with a vag tool like vag-com

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DsI8tKgfmFs

This is what happens when you leave the key in the ignition

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xB5DIuuEC_8

The top video actually does an alignment, and the figures change for the vag-com screen like below:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HMU_riJ00zo

as can be seen, the start figures are different to the end figures, because the throttle body is actually being measure while being aligned.

    Select Control Module

    Select "01" Engine

    Select "04" Basic Settings

In the first group box type "060" and hit GO!

You should see the display below and watch the "Step count" step through until it reaches 8.

I always get noticeable results from a vag com reset, mainly MPG.

Well worth doing now and then.

So just to reinforce the point,

YOU CAN'T DO A THROTTLE BODY ALIGNMENT WITHOUT USING VAGCOM.

    ;)

I heard that the throttle body resets itself after a few miles any way is that true?

IIRC its not a reset, more of an adjustment, to obviously "re-look" at your driving style, fuel type, temperature etc.

In case you're still wondering, that means no.

Ok, the Ross-tech makes sence then.
I wasnt sure if TDI had a throttle body......probably getting confused with the EGR and manifold.

I hold my hand up - idiot.

From reading the bottom link in the first post it seems sometimes the ECU does it itself?

    http://www.waheedkhan.com/vagcom/vagcomthrottlebodyadapt.htm

"Throttle body adaptation is a reset of the throttle body flap to align it to the accelerator pedal as the TT is Drive-by-wire.

Its recommended to be done at a service and then always if the battery were to be disconnected, there are 2 ways to do it.
    1. Switch on the ignition and leave it on for 30 seconds.
(You should hear some clicking in the engine bay, always after a battery disconnect)
This is not guaranteed to happen as the ecu decides if it needs doing,
if you disconnect/reconnect the battery first then this method will definitely work.

    or

2.Use VAG-COM procedure as described below"

I wonder how the ECU decides if its going to do it or not? also it says "if you disconnect/reconnect the battery first then this method will definitely work."

Any thoughts on this or am I missunderstanding?
