Will this turbo fit

My seat Ibiza is a 2008 6L 1.9tdi PD100 AXR Engine and I have just bought a recon turbo, it’s a Borgwarner 54431015073. The company who sold it took my registration number to match it to a turbo. I haven’t started taking the old one off yet but I know it’s a Borgwarner BV39, 54399880019. When I have removed the old one I will be able to see if it will fit, wondered if anyone had any knowledge of these different numbers on turbos? Thanks

Hello there,

this is pretty much all I can see online regarding the turbo numbers you've posted up.

Turbo charger complete with exhaust manifold (according to SEAT ETKA parts site)
(eng codes ATD, ASZ, BPX, AXR, BLT, BUK) year 2005/6 to 2008/9

Year 2005 to 2009
SEAT Ibiza Part numbers
038 253 010S
038 253 056C
038 253 014B

SEAT Ibiza turbo serial numbers
54399700001
54399700003
54399700006
54399700008
54399700019
54399700068
54399700081

*********************

Year 2003 to 2009
VW Polo Part numbers
038 253 010S
038 253 019P
038 253 056C

VW Polo turbo serial numbers
54399700001
54399700003
54399700006
54399700008
54399700081

Looks like VAG part number 038 253 014G is compatible with 54431015073 = this serial number is possibly one that was fitted to a Skoda Fabia ?

Part number 038 253 010B is compatible with 54399700019 and 54399880019

So according to the part numbers / serial numbers the turbo you've purchased should be ok in theory, possibly is off a slightly later model 2009 ?

Hope this helps
Si

Thanks for reply SEAT RULE, I have been told that 54431015703, a number on the aluminium casting part of the turbo, not on the ID plate is a casting reference number. Many turbos with different ID plate numbers use this casting. My recon turbo has not got an ID plate.

Thanks for reply SEAT RULE, I have been told that 54431015703, a number on the aluminium casting part of the turbo, not on the ID plate is a casting reference number. Many turbos with different ID plate numbers use this casting. My recon turbo has not got an ID plate.

Right ok it appears that some companies remove the identification plate when they overhaul a turbo, but not all only some.

This is what I've found from a company called Midland Turbo, who are UK based.
This is what it says on their website for the Borg Warner Turbo's.

Borg Warner part numbers are usually located on the compressor housing (or in some instances on the underside near where the oil/drain pipes go) on a small plate. They also have the biggest range of part numbers and variations used so it can be a little more difficult.
The number cast into the turbo housing should also be one of the numbers on the identification plate, as well as the NC number which only appears on the identification plate.
Also states on the website that the batch/serial number starting 543 or 544 is 11 digits long and the 3 middle digits/numbers can be for example 988 which can be interchanged with 970 and might be required when searching the store.
So going by your numbers starting 543 and 544 the replacement turbo you've been given/purchased should fit your vehicle.
Basically the serial numbers should go up in sequence so if your old turbo number is 54399880019 and your replacement is number 54431015073 this means it's a more recent turbo according to the batch/serial numbers from your first post.

  • Below is an example of the Borg Warner identification plate, according to Midland Turbo's.

My advice is to contact another turbo specialist company that overhaul these, and get a second opinion if you're in any doubt.

Hope this helps
