just set the cams and crank to TDC these are marked. to make sure crank is set remove spark plug 1 and put a screw driver in the cylinder, watch it rise when it stops before it goes down this is TDC. there will also be a mark on the flywheel.

with those set remove the Dizzy cap, there is a line/mark for TDC of the dizzy, your engine is now static timed.

i reckon that noise is actually the brake discs. but can never be sure.

I hope not! I just got new discs and pads all round and 2 rear wheel bearings. My noise only happens on idle, and when its heated up. My mechanic is in hospital too need to find a non cowboy to take it too. I heard it was about £200 to replace a timing belt
I am going to order one from euro car parts its about £70 for the kit for the 16v.

mines only noisey on idle after 5 minutes it goes completely just annoying. best thing to do is first remove the power steering belt. if it doesnt make the noise its the power steering pump.

then remove the alternator drive belt, if it stops it could be anything driven from that including the tensioner. mine just sounds from within the timing cover.

You're talking to someone who describes noises as cccchf lol I have no idea about the underneath of my car haha

Probably why I've always paid so much for repairs cos I have no idea what they're telling me.

Can someone just confirm cambelt change interval for me?
Is it 60k or 5 years whichever comes first?
On the 16v should you do the waterpump at the same time
