Wrong oil!!

We all go to dealers because we think they know what there doing..right!............Wrong!
Here`s a warning to all you PD engine owners. Recently had my car serviced (Cupra Diesel) and found out that they had use 10-40w oil in the service!!....If that`s not bad enough i looked at my previous service invoice and guess what!?......they`d used 10-40w oil then too!!. That`s 10,000 miles on 10-40w oil in a pd Cupra! Needles to say i`m now pretty PI**ED
Dealer has admitted mistake but will not agree to cover me if anything goes wrong on that score. I have invoices that state 10-40w oil was used, but is that really any good when the SH*T hits the fan? They changed the oil FOC, but now i have to see what happens. I might be lucky, but reading all the info in the forum and other forums about the importance of the correct oil in PD engines makes me think i`m holding a time bomb. I have rung several other SEAT dealers and was amazed that 2 out of the 5 i rang also use 10-40w oil in PD`s.
EVERYONE PLEASE CHECK YOUR INVOICE`S IN FUTURE.

some may say lala land....
no idea what 10-40w is , but as long as is 505.01 compliant you should be safe
people if you search have also had the cam issue when only this has ever been used and it was a dodgy build batch that was the issue

If it's 10W-40 then it isn't 505.01 compliant.

VW 505.01 - Special engine oil for VW turbodiesel with pump-injector-unit and for the V8 commonrail turbodiesel engines. Meets ACEA B4 SAE 5W-40 spec.

Your dealer needs at the very least to replace your camshaft and to indemnify you against lubricant-related failures for the life of the car. PD engines are very picky about their lubrication and VAG are particular about the oils that are used.

I hope you have the dealers admission in writing. Send a copy to Seat UK now, saying you aren't satisfied with their response (unless, of course, you are? I wouldn't be.)

Name and shame the dealer. This is a really serious mistake, rendering you liable to an expensive failure later in the life of the car. If they are a Seat dealer they have no excuse. If they are an idenpendent VAG specialist, they should know what they are doing, but Seat UK may not have influence.

If they are a non-affiliated dealer, you have no levers to help you.

i`m in two minds about naming and shaming the dealer. If i do they may well turn there back on me altogether. i have two original invoices, past and present, which show the use of 10-40w oil and also a work sheet which shows the FOC oil/filter change which is dated not long after the last service. i have filled in a customer survey report from seat uk and told them about it and have asked them for there reaction......probably a shrug of the shoulders!

Does anyone know what would be the first signs of engine damage due to improper oiling?

Just for the record it was a seat dealer of some repute!!
