so im just wondering if any of you leon cupra diesel guys have noticed the woosh sound when easing off the throttle after the turbo has been under load?

my car was owned by some 50 year old guy before and its certainly not modified....but seriously, a few people have said how loud it is!

is this normal?

Yup, mine does it! Got even louder after the remap and panel filter!:D Window down, third gear, right foot floored and the only thing I can hear is turbo whistle, can't hear any diesel clatter!

Thats cause they we have dervs and the boost the turbos put through is more than petrols.

Boost on a diesel is what most petrol owners dream about :)

a PD130/150 std should peak at around 1.2 BAR, mapped.. well anything up to a turbo melting 1.9 BAR...

Mine's around 1.7 I think

As far as the sound, is it made at low RPM? aka If you plant it and take it to around 2,600rpm then let off? Or?

well you get the biggest woosh around 2500 i guess...but it wil woosh all the ay upto 4500 but as your going faster you tend not to hear it as much...i find second and third are the best for wooshing haha

Exactly same as you westoncraig on my 150.

In fact, I've found myself driving round at sub-zero temps with the window down as I'm in love with the dumping sound from the turbo.

I can get mine to wooooooooosh loud if I change gear at 2.3/2.4k RPM's.

I never noticed the turbo getting louder after remap but certainly has after a green panel filter.

When you accelerate, make sure you're doing it with your foot flat ( Wide open throttle) and as you change gear, lift your foot quickly off the throttle - doesn't work if you just rev the engine whilst the car is sat on the spot. As said above, it needs to be under load :)

so what was fester on about "between changes you hear it more"

As in as you change gear, I do it often, and like above I find personally around 2.3k revs = much dumpage.

Then again mine has no cat, no silencers and not muffler. So I can hear mine rather alot, with the windows up aswell!

Not sure how many people are aware of how 'loud' loud is, but alot of tracks range from 89db up to 105db and, well err... mine came out with 101db ;)

Yep, mine's a bit loud.

Allard VT5 - BMC CDA intake - big bore downpipe - straight out zorst. LOUD whistle on boost then a nice release of pressure on upshifts. From outside the turbo whistle is very noticeable, mainly due to the exhaust I think.
